Hi! My name is Azariyah. I’m the content writer for Kids’ Corner, and this is my e-portfolio. I go to school at home. I couldn’t cope with public school. I just didn’t like it. The classrooms were dirty, full of germs, and I felt pushed around. I don’t like school because it’s boring.
My mom says I have to find an interest, something I’m passionate about. The problem is I really don’t know what I’m passionate about. I know I like technology a lot and playing digital games, but my mom says I can’t spend my whole life just doing that, unless I’m going to get paid for it. She suggested I write for Freckle.Blog to help me find my interest. Maybe we can do that together through the many kinds of things I’ll post. I hope so.

You have probably guessed it by now that my mom is my home-school teacher. She made learning fun by us walking to the library together. It was a beautiful autumn morning. The sun was out. We checked out books on the solar system. Then we went to our favorite cafe and had a hot chocolate with whip cream on top. We sat at the cafe and looked through the books. She told me the main thing you have to remember is that you live in the universe. She said, “you will have to know your place as a space traveler.” Do you mean where I’m from in the universe?” I asked her. “Yes,” she said. Then she asked me, “where are you from in the universe and what have you learned about the solar system you live in?”
I told her all that I could remember and needed to know:
- The sun is a star.
- The planets go around the sun.
- The gravity of the sun keeps the planets in orbit.
- It takes Earth 1 year or 365 days to orbit the sun.
- Night and day are caused by the earth spinning on its axis in 24 hours.
I told her the solar system is made up of 8 planets and remembered them the way she taught me like a boy’s name–MVEM J. SUN. It stands for Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptue. I also said I live in the Milky Way Galaxy and the closest star is Alpha Centauri A&B. They are 4.364 light years from Earth.
